Paradise Lost Screening at the Wynnsong Theater Little Rock, AR June 5th, 2004

I wish I could tell you it was packed full, but it was more like a crowd of
20. Yes, 20. Now, if you measure success by the turnout alone, I guess you
could say that it wasn't exceedingly successful. We were disappointed that
more people didn't show, but were glad to have the crowd that we did. Most
were not familiar with the case and the support out there. It was a diverse
mixture a race, religion, and social class and we had the opportunity to
talk one on one to everyone in attendance. If even two of those people who
attended can see the situation differently, I am confident that this will
play a role in spreading the truth. The total amount we brought in with/for
the screening was $435.00. After paying for the theater rental fee, and
shipping charges for the film there is just a tad left for the defense fund.
But any donation is better than none and the joy of raising any amount of
awareness is priceless.
The screening process itself went without difficulty. It looked and sounded
REALLY good on the big screen. As many times as I've seen the film, seeing
it in the Theater was awesome. (It never fails. In every screening I've
attended the individual who evokes the most reaction in the film is Dale
Griffis. Even more than Byers)
The staff at Carmike allowed us to set up a merchandise and information
table in the lobby area of the theater near the entrance. People coming in
to see other movies stopped at the table for information. Some of them
walked away quickly with a pretentious "No thank you". But, others were
very interested and will probably visit the web site, read the book, view
the films etc.
I was very proud of our ARWAR crew-- i.e. Me, Wendy, & Mary. Hell yes, we
were scared and nervous but managed to overcome it for the sake of the guys.
We stood in that lobby and proudly represented to the people of Arkansas.
We made some potentially valuable connections, including those made with the
Carmike Cinema staff. Some of them viewed the film before the screening and
were full of questions for us when we arrived. The manager promised us a
"hook up" in the future for part 2/Revelations. As a practicing Wiccan in
Arkansas, he was affected by the film and shared some of his own experiences
of prejudice. Interesting..
Overall, I think we all agree that the screening was successful in many
aspects. It was a earnest effort for the West Memphis 3 and we did our best
as mere concerned citizens. It was also a learning experience and gave us
the confidence we need to do more in the future.
